Zone Fauve: SS 22

Overview - Spring/Summer 2022

Written at the time of work’s release..

Being the second major body of work which we have released, our Spring/Summer 2022 collection explores the theme “Colours in Nature Don’t Clash”.

In this collection we have committed to, and embodied, our vision for Sustainability as outlined in our Manifesto 2022 by exclusively using pre-existing fabric. This was done in this instance by only utilising fabrics which we already had in stock.

Choosing to proceed in this way was a huge influence on the design process for this collection as rather than first designing and then choosing fabric, the order was reversed. Fabric combinations which one might not necessarily have thought of were realised. Pattern and colour combinations which otherwise may not have shared space were joined. The phrase and theme “Colours in Nature Don’t Clash” became more and more relevant throughout the design and development journey as it encouraged unorthodox artistic choices.

As a Queer brand we look to see things in a way that differs from the normative perspective. Combining fabrics in ways that we would not normally think to feels particularly apt bearing this in mind.

Consisting of six pieces in total, our Spring/Summer 2022 collection is made up of the following: sleeveless dress, t-shirt dress, vest top, halter neck top, trousers and skirt.

In addition to the inspiration provided by the fabrics that we had available to work with, our design process was guided heavily by the paintings of Julian Schnabel and the architectural principles of Frank Lloyd Wright. Specifically, the way in which Schnabel uses abstract forms to disrupt representative images and the method of Compression and Release pioneered by Wright.

We aspired to present this collection through a short film and our ambition was made real by filmmaker Felicitas Fuchs. After first looking to understand our collection concept and its inspirations and meanings, Felicitas continued by developing these ideas even further through her own research. The presentation film Felicitas has created for us is testament to her abilities as a film maker and speaks to her personal love and appreciation for fashion itself.

This collection is dedicated to Eileen Thomas. Special thanks are due to the many amazing people who have helped make this collection possible. A huge thank you also goes out to our customers and followers. Your continued interest and support gives us all the reason we need to continue our work.

Collection Film - Spring/Summer 2022

Written at the time of work’s release…

For the Spring/Summer 2022 presentation we wanted to produce a short film that would capture the essence of the collection theme “Colours in Nature Don’t Clash”. We knew that we wouldn’t be able to do this alone and so we invited film maker Felicitas Fuchs to create the film for us. Luckily for us, she said yes, and what Felicitas has made is truly something special. The work created shares the collection theme as its title; “Colours in Nature Don’t Clash”.

Felicitas sought to deeply understand the collection theme of “Colours in Nature Don’t Clash” before developing this concept even further by delving into themes of Art imitating Nature and the relationship that exists between human creation and the unending source of muse that is natural life.

We thank Felicitas for making a presentation for this collection which goes above and beyond simply showing the clothes. Rather, Felicitas has made a work of art in its own right and has brought us a lot of joy in the process.

Huge thank you to all involved in the production of this presentation film: Felicitas Fuchs, Maria Hill, Margarida Santos, Magdalena McLean, Rebecca Sangs, Rubie, William Walsh and Zoetic Studios. This film is dedicated to Eileen Thomas and Resi Fuchs, grandmothers of Morgan Jones and Felicitas Fuchs, both of whom sadly passed away from the physical world this year but will always remain with us in spirit.

Elly Rodbert interprets Spring / Summer 2022

Written at the time of work’s release…

Earlier this year I fortuitously met Elly Rodbert at a mutual friend’s gig in Hoxton, East London. Off the bat I had good vibes from Elly and upon finding out she’s a Fashion Illustrator and seeing her artistic style, I knew I had to work with her. Elly must have felt the same because here we are, a few months later, with a collaboration in the bag.

Elly has done an incredible series of six works interpreting our Spring / Summer 2022 collection which explores the theme “Colours in Nature Don’t Clash”. Each of these illustrations taken separately is impressive enough but when together the overall effect is quite simply… mega.

I find the work aesthetically gorgeous. The riotous colours, lines, and patterns which saturate the eye somehow sit within a carefully hidden balance. Each piece keeps the observer busy without being overwhelming, an exceptional feat. Elly has used a variety of characters in these works which demonstrates her own inclusive mind set as well as quite literally illustrating ours.

Being a UAL student at the time of making this, Elly is only just getting started. Keep an eye on her work, she’s going places, and we’re honoured to be part of her artistic journey.

Thanks friends

Morgan

Elly also created this adaptation of the Zone Fauve logo, which was used throughout our Spring Summer 22 season.

Additional Content

To support the online release of our SS 22 collection we worked with Felicitas Fuchs who, in addition to creating the Collection Film, also created for us three Pre-launch trailers and four clips of Flower.

The Pre-launch trailers were released sequentially in advance of launching the collection. Throughout the launch of the collection on social media, the Flower footage was used released alongside the Collection Photographs to further communicate the work’s aesthetic and core concept.

See more of Felicitas’ work by visiting her site at www.felicitasfuchs.com or following her on instagram @felicitrix
