Zone Fauve: Special Projects

In our third season, rather than releasing a collection as done previously with AW 21 / 22 and SS 22, we decided to pursue three creative processes which we came to call “Special Projects”. This allowed us to work with multiple design directions in one season and provided us with the opportunity to take on bespoke pieces.

Zone Fauve: Special Project “The Time Dress”

This piece, which came to be known as “The Time Dress” was made in order to allow new explorations of design concepts and construction techniques.

For the first time, we used a lot of layering within the same piece. In total, there are 36 hand cut pieces of fabric which make up the dress. The bodice is darted to allow a close fit, and the skirt section consists of A-Line overlapping layers of tulle. Each layer of tulle is cut with a unique curving hem line resulting in different layering of the fabric and as such different combinations of tone. The upper section of the skirt is cut from the same woven fabric as the bodice and as such we have a visually continuous transition from the upper to the lower dress. Adhering to the Zone Fauve Brand Manifesto, all fabrics used are sustainable. Despite it’s many layers, this dress allows great movement and comfort for the wearer.

To help us present this piece, we worked with Fashion Filmmaker and Photographer Felicitas Fuchs and Model Rubie. At the heart of the film and photography is the concept of time, personified, moving through the landscape. This powerful presentation contains moments of both halting beauty and tension which call for attention and reflection.

Zone Fauve: Special Project “Bespoke Performance outfit for Rubie”

This dress was designed for Musician Rubie to wear on stage when performing. The ability to move easily on stage is key for Rubie as she is a dynamic vocalist and instrumentalist. Cut from a mixture of sustainable woven and stretch fabrics, the dress allows Rubie the freedom of movement she needs whilst maintaining its form. Felicitas Fuchs photographed Rubie wearing the dress at the final fitting.

Zone Fauve: Special Project “Bespoke Performance outfit for Tara Noble of Tash”

Designed for Tara, lead vocalist and bassist of the band Tash, to wear on stage, this outfit consists of a front tied corset style halter neck top in denim with ribbon embellishments and is paired with an asymmetrical skirt featuring a fully gathered left side seam. Made to reflect Tara's personal style through the Zone Fauve lens, it was imperative that the outfit allows Tara the movement she needs for her performances. The denim for the bodice and stretch fabric for the skirt are all fabrics we already had in stock from past projects and so we got to breathe new life into these and minimise wastage as a result. Felicitas Fuchs photographed Tara wearing her bespoke outfit at the final fitting.
