Overview AW 21 / 22

Written at the time of work’s release…

Our first collection, AW 21 / 22, explores the theme “Contentment in Solitude”. This phrase represents the ability one has to find peace in their own company, whether this be in a private space or whilst moving through the world. The collection was launched on November 1st 2021 in tandem with the launching of the Zone Fauve brand, and will be available until March 31st 2022.

We wanted to create pieces that help someone find this contentment and our design direction was purposefully aimed at making garments which are for the wearer’s enjoyment, rather than the viewers. All Zone Fauve clothing is unisex and we hoped to create a collection which would appeal to fashion conscious adults who appreciate unique designs which have been made with attention and care.

This collection is comprised of eight garments; two dresses, two pullovers, two skirts and two tops. Throughout the collection in each item we have explored the A-Line. Through its wider base the A-Line silhouette provides stability to the wearer. It also allows mobility and through the use of generous amounts of fabric it provides comfort and warmth during the autumn winter season. Each garment is cut with layering in mind, meaning the wearer can combine pieces from the collection or style them with pieces from their existing wardrobe.

Inspired by the paintings of Henri Matisse and Jean-Michele Basquiat as well as the book A Dictionary of Colour Combinations based on the works of Sanzo Wada, our AW 21 / 22 collection uses large block colour. The colourway for this collection is comprised of a Petrol base, a Sea Foam mid-tone, Off White highlight and a Terracotta contrast.

The fabrics used in the AW 21 / 22 collection are Stretch Velvet Velour, Plain Velour, and Ponte Roma. Not only do these fabrics bring into being the desired aesthetic through their surface texture and ability to hold bold colours, they are also very comfortable and warm, characteristics we felt imperative to creating a collection designed to help bring contentment to the wearer during the colder months. Each garment in the collection is made available to purchase in a variety of colours. For Velour garments; Petrol, Sea Foam and Terracotta. For Ponte Roma garments; Petrol, Off White and Terracotta.

To celebrate the launch of this collection and explore its nature further we created a collection film. Delving into the theme of “Contentment in Solitude”, the film shows pieces from the collection worn by two lone models in contemplative states, soundtracked by a piano piece given the same title as the collection theme. Within the same space, we photographed the collection for use on our website and other channels including Instagram.

In addition to this, we are collaborating with three artists who are interpreting the collection in their own medium. These artists are Marv, Magdalena McLean and Felicitas Fuchs. Each of the three collaborations will be produced and released throughout the course of the season.

We would like to extend thanks to all who have helped make this collection and its presentation possible: Camille Leroy, Niall Herlihy, Em Noakes, Dani Surname, Marv, Magdalena McLean, Felicitas Fuchs and Bootstrap Charity. Special thanks from Creative Director Morgan Jones to his parents and his partner. AW 21 / 22 has been dedicated to Morgan’s older brother Gez.

Last, but certainly not least, we would like to thank you too for your continued support and interest in Zone Fauve.

Marv interprets AW 21 / 22

Written at the time of work’s release…

Marv is a photographer based in Hull, UK. His work involves photography in both fine art and fashion settings. At the time of creating this work, Marv is preparing to release his first book in conjunction with a corresponding online exhibition, both titled “Attired and unseen”. For his shoot interpreting Zone Fauve AW 21 / 22, Marv photographed model and burlesque dancer Fyre wearing the Sleeveless Dress in Terracotta Stretch Velvet Velour from the collection. You can find links to both Marv and Fyre’s work at the base of this page.

Special thanks to Marv, Fyre and all who take the time to appreciate these images.

Magdalena McLean interprets AW 21 / 22

Written at the time of work’s release…

Magdalena is a musician based in London, UK. Magdalena plays violin in three bands with their own distinct personalities namely, Caroline, The Umlauts and Naima Bock.

When not making music, Magdalena enjoys photography. In particular, she is interested in blurriness, focus, colour and slowness, capturing accidental and unexpected moments in her practice.

Magdalena has recently moved towards using disposable cameras as a means of eliminating elements of authorship and stylisation in her photography work and has employed this medium in her interpretation of our AW 21 / 22 collection.

The work involved Magdalena first taking a series of photographs of her sister, Maria McLean, modelling pieces from our AW 21 / 22 collection. Magdalena then went on to create a series of collages made up of these unique images. In total there are 11 collages which can be seen below. You can find links to both Magdelana and Maria’s work on this page also.

Special thanks to Magdalena, Maria and all who take the time to appreciate these images.

Felicitas Fuchs interprets AW 21 / 22

Written at the time of work’s release…

“Solitude lies waiting in the corners. Its ear-numbing silence can only be ignored for so long. Delivering a punishment that has no crime.

Distraction proves productive within its own set of standards. Once the yarn is used up, we face a much more daunting question than that of how to manage time efficiently.

As we understand that the emptiness of solitude is concealed, not filled, it becomes strikingly clear that the only way out is through. To give in to its pull and grow under its conditions.

The unbearable realities of existence under solitude are only made bearable through the submission to the circumstances implied by its presence. We find refuge by being consumed

into our environment.” - Felicitas Fuchs

The passage above was written by Felicitas Fuchs to accompany her short film, “In Arborem”, interpreting our AW 21 / 22 collection which explored the theme Contentment in Solitude. A professional film maker based in London, her work is conceptual and technical; exploring subjects through a thorough ideation phase before filming and finessing in post production.

For Felicitas, Fashion has always been an area of great interest and Fashion Film has been on her agenda for some time. When we approached her about interpreting our AW 21 / 22 collection in her own medium and style, the moment seemed to be perfect, as she herself was on the lookout for her first Fashion Film project.

What Felicitas has created for us is without doubt a strong declaration of her intentions within the field of Fashion Film. Evocative, unsettling, and palpably unique, Felicitas’ interpretation of our collection is one of a kind and we are sure that not only will this piece of cinematography be a fantastic part of Zone Fauve’s history, but one that will be looked back on in Felicitas’ practice too as her initial and yet solid step into the world of Fashion.

You can find out more about Felicitas, including her previous work and background, by visiting her site www.felicitasfuchs.com or following her on Instagram @felicitrix

For this short film, Felicitas worked with model Min Beacon, who you can follow on instagram @redqueenwildboy

We hope you enjoy Felicitas’ film as much as we do, and thank you for taking the time to watch it. A huge thank you from us to Felicitas and her model Min for producing something so iconic.
