Looking for Shade: Pt; 1

An exploration of spatial relationships - August ‘23

It recently occurred to me that shade is not only an absence of light but also an interaction between multiple objects. That is to say the object(s) providing the shade and the object(s) in the shade. It seems to me that shade is a spatial relationship. This idea formed the core concept of this project.

Research into the art of Sculptor Richard Serra and the garments of Designer Yohji Yamamoto informed the design journey. I see great emphasis on spatial relationships in both of their work and as such the combination of their ideas and mine felt very harmonious.

The project results in a capsule Spring / Summer Womxnswear collection comprised of a dress, skirt, trousers and two tops. Final designs are presented through an illustrative style inspired by the visual language of the anime Cowboy Bebop. Hypothetical stockists would include; LN-CC, Farfetch, and Selfridges. Shown here is a synopsis of the work. To request more information please get in touch via the contact page on this site.
